Electric Machines: Theory, Operaion, Applications, Adjustment, and Control by Charles I. Hubert,

Electric Machines: Theory, Operaion, Applications, Adjustment, and Control by Charles I. Hubert,
Here is what reviewers have to say about "Electric Machines, Second Edition." The topic organization is certainly unique. I like the concept of developing AC machines first, particularly starting with motors before generators. The practical application concepts and problems are particularly interesting. We do need a machinery book with some NEMA standards and tables as found in Hubert's book. Because DC generators are internally AC generators, covering AC before DC is acceptable given a circuits course and knowledge of complex numbers as a prerequisite for this course. The author's years of experience with machines has resulted in a clean, concise delivery of the text material enhanced by accompanying schematics, pictures, and sample problems. I consider this text to be the best I have seen on the subject of electric machines. The writing style is very good, and the author has both practical and theoretical knowledge. I think this makes the text more believable to the students. A good blend between the simple approach to machines found in some texts and the highly technical approach found in others. Among all the new texts I have seen over the past few years, this is the best. I feel that the general order of topic coverage (transformers, AC machines, and DC machines) while different from the more usual order (DC, AC, transformers) is reasonable and in fact is the order that we have used in our courses for many years. Mr. Hubert's wealth of experience shows through and I am impressed with what I have read. For the general market, the most attractive feature is the stand-alone character of the major sections of the book. The material is well written and the coverage is thorough.Review questions have been well chosen, and homework problems cover the material well. Example problems are appropriate, applicable, and well conceived. When one is forced to teach such a course in one semester, one has to make choices on what to teach and on what to skip.

Text Book: Writing Through Literature by St Martins Press,
Text Book: Writing Through Literature by St Martins Press,
- A unique approach demonstrates the connections between "literary" and "nonliterary" texts. In its four chapters, Text Book reveals and explores the features of texts -- such as narrative, metaphor, and intertextuality -- that literature and ordinary spoken and written language share. Understanding these features makes students better readers and more confident interpreters of both literature and life; using them makes students more creative thinkers and more venturesome writers in their introductory literature and writing courses. - A wide variety of readings provides numerous examples of key textual features. Playing off an adventurous choice of 20 stories, 23 poems, and four plays -- the traditional literary genres -- and many inviting "nonliterary" selections (including anecdotes, parables, autobiographical excerpts, fairy tales, and advertisements) highlight common features and practices of written texts. One hundred and two exciting pieces in all exemplify important composing processes such as revision and metaphor. Works include Paul Auster's "Tell Me a Story, " Susan Griffin's A Chorus of Stones, and many more. Text Book has enough readings to stand alone--yet can easily be supplemented with other texts. - Stimulating assignments prompt students to generate their own analytical and imaginative texts. The discussion and writing prompts after each reading -- such as "Revising Anecdote to Story" -- provide more than 300 proven assignments that enable students to explore literature from the inside out--to write through, rather than simply about, literature. These assignments draw on students' creative imaginations and analytical skills to turn them from passive consumersinto active producers of critical and creative texts. Character generator - A character generator (CG for short) is a device or software that produces static or animated text (such as crawls and rolls) for keying into a video stream. Modern character generators are actually computer-based, and can generate graphics as well as text.

Textile (markup language) - Textile is a lightweight markup language originally developed by Dean Allen and billed as a "humane Web text generator". Textile converts its marked-up text input to valid, well-formed XHTML and also inserts character entity references for apostrophes, opening and closing single and double quotation marks, ellipses and em dashes, as well as replacing "international" characters in text with character entity references as a precaution against character encoding problems common on the web.

Text Text Revolution - Text Text Revolution is a simulator of Dance Dance Revolution. The game uses ASCII characters to draw the arrows, and thus can be played on a text-only terminal.

Text mining - Text mining, also known as intelligent text analysis, text data mining or knowledge-discovery in text (KDT), refers generally to the process of extracting interesting and non-trivial information and knowledge from unstructured text. Text mining is a young interdisciplinary field which draws on information retrieval, data mining, machine learning, statistics and computational linguistics.

The "facts" of generation are covered in part two?boilers, turbines, generators, hydro and pumped storage, and "alternative" generations sources, suchs geothermal, tidal, solar, and wind.
